THE BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS 3 –

The Complete Armor Of God 10

“Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness”

Ephesians 6:14 (KJV)

To put on the breastplate of righteousness is essential in your daily living as a believer in Christ.

The breastplate of righteousness defends you against one of the most deadly arrows or weapons of the devil — which is Condemnation.

Even our Lord, who is the Commander in Chief of His great army, adorned Himself with the breastplate of righteousness.

This was how He was qualified to bring salvation to us.

Did the adversary attempt to find faults or wrongdoings in Christ Jesus?

Certainly!

Through the Jewish leaders, the adversary always tried to ensnare our Lord Jesus. Through their questions, misinterpretation or misrepresentation of the Mosaic laws, and legalistic demands.

Even when they did not find fault with Him after His arrest, they took Him to Herod Antipas and even Pontius Pilate (the governor of the Roman province of Judea). And none of these authorities found fault with and in Jesus.

For the Lord to bring Salvation to us, He must be perfectly righteous and holy.

It was by the perfection of His righteousness that they found no sin or guilt in Him.

The Prophet Isaiah spoke of it:

“For our offenses are many in your sight, and our sins testify against us. Our offenses are ever with us, and we acknowledge our iniquities: rebellion and treachery against the Lord, turning our backs on our God, inciting revolt and oppression, uttering lies our hearts have conceived. So justice is driven back, and righteousness stands at a distance; truth has stumbled in the streets, honesty cannot enter. Truth is nowhere to be found, and whoever shuns evil becomes a prey. The Lord looked and was displeased that there was no justice.” Isaiah 59:12-15 (NKJV)

Now from verses 12 to 15, we see the Prophet describing the state of those who have not received the salvation of the Lord. This prophecy doesn’t only point to the situation in Israel but extensively describes the state of man without Christ.

The offenses of man without Christ are many and sin testified against men.

There was a need for a solution; and because there was no one qualified to intervene, the Lord’s own arm (Christ Jesus) had to achieve the Salvation plan.

“He saw that there was no one, he was appalled that there was no one to intervene so his own arm achieved salvation for him, and his own righteousness sustained him. He put on righteousness as his breastplate, and the helmet of salvation on his head; he put on the garments of vengeance and wrapped himself in zeal as in a cloak” Isaiah 59: 16 – 17

All through the trial of Jesus, He was sustained by His own righteousness. And this was because He put on His righteousness as His breastplate.

In your daily walk, the adversary seeks ways to attack you with guilt and condemnation. Yours is to continually stand in the confidence of the righteousness of Jesus.

Jesus was sustained by His righteousness. Your self-righteousness cannot sustain you.

When you received the Lord unto salvation, you didn’t only receive Him as life. You also received Him as your righteousness. Your righteousness is no longer your deeds.

Your righteousness is a person and He is Jesus.

“You are partners with Christ Jesus because of God. Jesus has become our wisdom sent from God, our righteousness, our holiness, and our ransom from sin.” 1 Corinthians 1:30 (God’s Word Translation)

The Lord Himself has been given to us who believe in Him as our righteousness.

To put on the Lord’s breastplate of righteousness is to walk in the consciousness of Christ as your righteousness.

Stand in the consciousness of the righteousness of Christ.

Hallelujah!
