BEWARE OF AN ELIAB 3

“Eliab, his older brother, heard David fraternizing with the men and lost his temper: “What are you doing here! Why aren’t you minding your own business, tending that scrawny flock of sheep? I know what you’re up to. You’ve come down here to see the sights, hoping for a ringside seat at a bloody battle!”

1 Samuel 17:28 (Message)

Have you ever been inspired to do something for the Lord, given His green light and suddenly an older respected fellow calls you over to his office to advise you of how you are wasting your time to do something for the Lord?

For a moment it will make you look back at yourself to wonder if you are doing the right thing.

There are many great destinies the adversary aborted using the pessimistic opinions of influencers in their lives.

Sometimes the people who discourage the purpose of God in your life may be “prayer warriors” in their churches, lecturers, punctual in Church and spiritual. But don’t share in the burdens of the Kingdom.
Some of these people are in Church but don’t know the purpose of God for the Church and the saints.

Even our Lord Jesus had a similar experience with Peter.

In Matthew 16, Peter by supernatural revelation confessed Jesus as the Christ, the Son of the living God. Jesus affirmed that Peter’s knowledge of Him was not according to flesh and blood. (Matthew 16:17)

Later, Peter, interrupted Jesus when He was speaking of His death and resurrection.

“From that time Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised. And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, saying, “Far be it from you, Lord! This shall never happen to you.” But he turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me. For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.” Matthew 16: 21-23 (ESV)

This doesn’t suggest that Peter was satan but spoke by the deceptive influence of satan. Jesus knew those words were from satan. (Read more about the Deception of the adversary here).

Peter’s words to Jesus were harmless. They were a genuine concern for Jesus. But that wasn’t God’s plan. The death of Jesus was to our advantage. Later, Peter preached concerning the death and resurrection of Jesus, and about 5,000 people were saved.

When Eliab saw David, he didn’t take the time to find out about David’s mission on the battlefield. Because David didn’t make a personal choice to be out there. He was there because he obeyed his father Jesse. But David being sent to the battlefield was according to the plan and purpose of God.

Eliab’s first reaction to David was to lose his temper. Perhaps, he thought David was about his usual curiosity.

Eliab also thought all that David was meant for was to tend the scrawny or unattractive tiny flock of sheep.

He felt David was only there to sit on the ringside to watch a bloody battle like a spectator in a boxing or mixed martial arts arena.

But NO! DAVID WAS ON GOD’S MISSION.

Beloved, there are big things God wants to achieve through you. He is always ordering your steps into an environment where you will step into that great purpose.

Don’t allow anyone to make you doubt what God is inspiring you to do. Don’t allow anyone to make you think you are not meant to do big things. Don’t allow anyone to make you think you have to remain small, hidden and irrelevant.

Stay alert and discerning to the voice of God and the voice of Eliab. Submit to a leader who understands and is burdened by God’s vision; and also sees you as God sees you.

Set your mind on the things of God, and not on the things of man. That is the only way you can do the things of God.

You have what it takes to do what God has called you to do. Don’t be afraid to take responsibilities in Church.

You are the man for the job!

Selah!

DIG DEEPER
(Jeremiah 1:8-9; 1 Samuel 17; Jeremiah 51:20-26; Psalm 60:12).

Glory to Jesus Forever! Something to really shout about. One profound truth that stood out to me was the fact that, David – an ordinary shepherd boy, who went about his normal activity of doing what his father says, had no idea that it was those little instructions that led him to the full manifestation of God’s will for his life. I don’t take the little instructions for granted. Hallelujah

This write up reminds me of the young prophet whom God commanded not to eat anything offered to him from where he was sent, but was deceived by the senior prophet to eat.We must learn to know what God has for us personally.
I focus on the things that are the Lord’s.
Glory to God.
