THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT 5

“And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God”

Ephesians 6:17 (KJV)

As I have already explained to you, thoughts and words are crucial items in spiritual warfare.

Even the thoughts that run through your mind and the words you speak will always affect your living.

The kind of thoughts you entertain will shape your words, and your words will define your world.

When the adversary wants to attack your world, he exposes your mind to wrong thoughts. If he wants you to live defeated, he invades your mind with thoughts of weakness, failure, doubt, and negativity.

This is why you must become intentional with the meditation of the word of God.

You are not like a tree planted by the rivers of water simply because you are born again. It is not that automatic.
You can only be like a tree planted by the rivers of water when you make the word of God your delight and meditation (Psalm 1:1-3)

You cannot wage good warfare when you are not full of the word of God.

Imagine a soldier going to war without a sword.

How is he going to have an offensive advantage?

And the Word of God in your mouth is the Sword of the Spirit. Until you are full of the Word in all situations, you will not be sharp enough to address every opposing thought.

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly. (Colossians 3:16)

The greatest deceptive strategy of the adversary against you (as a believer in Christ) is to attack your thoughts by casting shadows on your mind, using the scriptures.

He cast shadows by misquoting or misrepresenting the true meaning of the word.

He mainly attacks your identity in Christ.

That was how he attacked Adam and Eve in Eden. He attacked their identity.

“Of course we may eat it,” the woman told him. “It’s only the fruit from the tree at the center of the garden that we are not to eat. God says we mustn’t eat it or even touch it, or we will die.”

That’s a lie!” the serpent hissed. “You’ll not die! God knows very well that the instant you eat it you will become like him, for your eyes will be opened—you will be able to distinguish good from evil.” Genesis 3:3-4 (TLB)

Meanwhile, God made man in His image and after His likeness (Genesis 1:26).

Again, after the Father had declared these words during the baptism of Jesus “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased!” (Matthew 3:17)

The devil came to tempt Jesus saying, “ If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread.” (Matthew 4:3)

Do you see it?

He came attacking what the voice said concerning Jesus.

The moment he used the phrase “If you are the Son of God”, he is subtly creating uncertainty in the mind of Jesus.

He now wants Jesus to think he is not yet the son of God but will only become by doing what he tells him to do. And if Jesus had done what the adversary was deceptively asking for, he might have lived in doubt of who He is and be ruled by the thoughts of the devil.

Beloved do not be ignorant of the devices of the enemy.

The adversary will always attack what God says about you!

Jesus knew the devil’s devices and deployed the word of God.

“But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” (Matthew 4:4)

Did the devil stop there?

Not at all. He kept using various means in an attempt to make Jesus act contrary to his reality. Yet, Jesus consistently addressed the situation with the word, till He finally and sternly cast the devil out using the word as a weapon. Jesus didn’t just quote the scripture, He had to use it as a weapon.

This time Jesus didn’t just say it is written, He said:

“Get out of here, Satan,” Jesus told him. “For the Scriptures say, ‘You must worship the Lord your God and serve only him.’ (Matthew 4:10)

This was similar to what David did when he confronted Goliath.

Beloved, what is the challenge confronting you? Take hold of the word of God concerning that situation and use the word as a weapon to enforce your victory.

Get hold of the word, be full of the word of God, that you may be ready in all season; with your mouth full of the right words to be used to wage war.

Hallelujah!

WE PRAY
We pray that we will grow in the revelation of the Word, to know how to rightly use the word in the relevant situation.

BIBLE READING IN THE YEAR 2024
Psalm 26 – 30

DECLARE THESE WORDS:
– I am full of the word.

– I am established in the certainty of my identity in Christ.

– I speak forth the word of God at all times.

– I have the right word for every season and circumstance of my life.

– I wage war with the word of God given to me.

Thank you Lord Jesus!

I use the word right in every situation. I am not ignorant of the schemes of the adversary. Since the adversary’s greatest tool is deception, I learnt that to wage good warfare we need the Word. It is the word of God that I would be able to wage good spiritual warfare.

From 1st Samuel 17, I really enjoyed and was inspired by David. In as much as Goliath was rude, David never lost His composure. His eyes were fixed on the goal. He overcome the adversary by faith through God’s word.

From the daily bible reading, I learnt that as we put our trust in the Lord, He delivers us and as we wait upon Him, we see His mighty arm.
I learnt that although they may be struggles, fears, temptations among other challenges, the Lord is our light and our salvation. We should not fear. It is high time we put our trust in the Almighty God for He cares about us. He never leaves the righteous forsaken.
All my life, I will dwell in the house of the Lord

This is absolutely true. The thought of man influences his words and which in turn influences his world. It’s like a cascade initiated by the adversary against the saints. If he gets you to think defeat, weakness, doubts and failure, the cascade continues which soon becomes a reality.
But thanks be to God, I take the sword of the Spirit which is the word. I will not keep mute. I will talk the rhema of God concerning every life challenge to enforce my victory.
