THE SWORD IN YOUR MOUTH 1
” And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” Ephesians 6:17 (NKJV)
Of all the many things we have looked at concerning the Word of God, the opening verse gives another perspective of the Word.
Most of the discussions here, we have seen what the Word of God does in us. However, to know the Word of God as a sword, is in reference to how we operate with the Word of God as a weapon.
The Word of God in your mouth is sharper than a double-edged dagger or sword in the hands of a skillful Roman soldier.
The the word SWORD is from the Greek word “Machaira”. Thus Machaira simply means sword. However it is not just any sword.
Of the arsenal of swords a Roman soldier would use, this sword was the most unpredictably brutal, deadly and indispensable weapon of them all. This sword was more like a dagger used for close range combat.
With razor sharp blades on both sides and the tip of the sword often turned upward; the edge or point becomes sharper. This sword would be thrust in an enemy and then turn to cause more damage, pulling the enemy’s viscera out as the blade was removed.
This certainly was a violent weapon during a fight.
Understand that as saints we are at war, and as good soldiers we must utilise the weapons of war given us.
We have the SWORD OF THE SPIRIT, which is THE WORD OF GOD!
It is an offensive weapon.
The Word of God is not offensive as you read. The Word becomes your weapon offensive as you speak!
The Word of God is a burning reality in your heart unto transformation. And also a brutal dagger in your mouth which terrorizes darkness and the adversary.
Listen,to hāgāh God’s word and to practice homologia are not some religious activities, but offensive warfare strategy. We are not only to be in a defensive position, guarding our hearts and minds from the arrows of darkness. We have the Word of God as a sharp dagger in our mouth.
Look at the verse in The Passion Translation:
“Embrace the power of salvation’s full deliverance, like a helmet to protect your thoughts from lies. And take the mighty razor-sharp Spirit-sword of the spoken Word of God.“ Ephesians 6:17 (TPT).
Do you see it?
The Word of God spoken is a mighty spirit-word with a sharp razor!
You have to take it up and put it to work.
The forces of darkness are at war with you everyday. A fellow saint in Christ, who knows his or her Bible and uses it each day is dangerous to the enemy. You can only rebuke the attacks of the devil by the Word in your mouth.
Roman soldiers don’t go into battle without their sharp dagger or machaira. And as a good soldier in Christ, take hold of your machaira every day.
The more you use your machaira (spirit-sword), the more you learn how to use it in order to exercise your victory through each battle and challenging times.
